Clothes Dryers

Clothes Dryers are heated by either electric or gas. The gas models can be fueled by natural gas or propane. It should be noted that although gas dryers are fueled by gas, they still require an electric source to ignite the gas and turn the drum and therefore will have an attached power cord.

Origin

  • At origin AE will perform a visual and mechanical inspection of the unit.
  • The dryer is turned on to be sure it is heating and operating properly.
  • Notations are made on the signature copy of our paperwork of any pre-existing cosmetic or mechanical damage.
  • The power cord is disconnected and secured.
  • External vents are removed, inspected, wrapped, and placed inside the machine to prevent loss or damage.
  • The control panel is wrapped, and the door is secured.
  • On gas dryers, we remove the gas flex line and the house gas supply line is capped and checked for leaks.

Destination

  • Dryer reconnection service is generally the reverse of what was performed at origin, with some notable exceptions:
  • The power cord is connected.
  • External venting is inspected and then installed.
  • The unit is leveled, and tested.
  • As part of our standard service, on gas dryers: a new gas flex line is installed as required by the American National Standards Institute.
  • The gas line is checked to ensure a tight, leak-free seal.

Most new construction is built with a 4 prong receptacle for the power cord. AE can provide the optional service of converting the cord from 3 to 4 prong if needed. Although it is illegal to convert the dryer plug backwards from a 4 prong to a 3 prong, we are able to convert the wall receptacle to accommodate an older style plug, if required.

Dryer Venting
During the process of drying clothing, lint will collect in a unit’s internal lint filter, and may also settle within the external vent. Failure to regularly clean both areas will not only greatly reduce the dryer’s efficiency, but also poses a serious fire hazard. The internal vent should be cleaned after each load of clothes is removed. The external vent should be cleaned at least twice per year. AE recommends replacing vinyl external venting with a smooth metal vent.

It should be noted that use of a flexible spiral exhaust vent, either plastic or foil, is not recommended and in fact will void most manufacturer warranties. In addition to obstructing air flow, these vents also tend to collect lint within their grooves.

These external vents can be cleaned with a leaf blower, or by removing the vent and cleaning it outside with a hose and spray nozzle. When cleaning with water, it is critical that the vent is completely dry before reattaching to the dryer.
