Refrigerator Ice Maker Service

Refrigerator Ice Maker service is a very typical service that AE Worldwide performs when authorized to prepare appliances for transport or reconnection at destination. Read more to help your staff explain this service to your customers.

Origin

  • Upon arrival at the residence, and prior to disconnection, our technician inspects the floor in the surrounding area for any pre-existing damage. If any is apparent, it is shown to the customer and noted on our service form.
  • This same form would also list any pre-existing damage to the refrigerator.
  • The water shut-off value is located and closed to prevent any water flow while the disconnection is performed.
  • The water line which connects the cold water supply in the home to the rear of the refrigerator will be disconnected, coiled, and secured to prevent damage while the appliance is moved. (The line generally remains with the home since it is often run through the cabinets or floorboards.)
  • The water line remaining in the home is “capped” to prevent any potential leakage.
  • When freezing temperatures are anticipated, additional filter disconnection and water reservoir draining to prevent expansion and cracking of any components will be performed if necessary

Often when speaking with customers in preparation for this service, many ask if they can still store items in the refrigerator until loading time. The answer is yes! The refrigerator does not have to be unplugged until just before loading (assuming it’s a frost free freezer unit). As the water line has been disconnected, the unit will simply stop making new ice cubes and chilled water will no longer be available from the door if the unit has that feature.

Destination

  • The floor is checked for any pre-existing damage before any service is begun.
  • The water lines are reconnected
  • The refrigerator is leveled, and then tested to be sure that no leaks are present.

Because of the nature of the electronic components involved in the production of ice cubes, it can take up to 24 hours before the first cubes are produced. It is recommended that the first batch of ice be discarded as it may include old water that was left within the system during the move. In homes which do not have a pre-existing water line for the ice maker, AE offers new water line installation service as an option. An additional AE optional service is door reversal after relocation, opening the refrigerator door(s) could be obstructed when set in place in the new kitchen. Our technicians can reverse the door opening on most units.

Note: Plumbing codes vary by state. In many locations, local codes now require that only copper water lines (versus plastic lines) be utilized when connecting an ice maker. AE Worldwide researches and always follows these local ordinances.
